So, my boyfriend will be deployed through spring of 2013, which means we'll miss celebrating Thanksgiving, our 2nd anniversary, Christmas, & Valentine's Day together. I really want to make up for all those missed occasions & was wondering if anybody has done this before or has any ideas.
Even though we have months until he gets home, I've been throwing around some ideas. So far I'm thinking the Christmas part will just be me giving him all the little gifts I've gotten for him through deployment, plus making him a stocking or something & putting up some tacky decorations. I kind of wanted the whole thing to be a surprise, but I figured if I'm going to be giving him gifts, I know he'll want to know ahead of time so he has something to give me (not that I'm all about getting gifts, I just know how bad I always feel when I'm not expecting to exchange gifts with someone but they get me something & I don't have anything for them). So I'll probably let him know I plan on giving him all his deployment gifts (he already knows I've been buying/making stuff for him to give him when he gets back) on whatever day I pick, but I won't give the whole thing away. I figured we can also watch some of those classic Christmas movies too.
For the Thanksgiving part, obviously, it's all about the food. I thought this recipe would be a fun twist on typical Thanksgiving dinner (I'm still in the process of learning to cook, but I don't expect to be able to pull off a full Thanksgiving day feast anytime in the near future). That & some pumpkin pie, & that's Thanksgiving.
I figure anniversary & Valentine's Day kind of go hand in hand, with the romantic stuff. I was thinking maybe something on the beach once it starts getting kind of dark, even though it'll still be a little chilly in Virginia Beach around that time. But maybe a light picnic (just sandwiches since we'll have had a big thanksgiving meal in the afternoon) with sandwiches on the beach. Then light some candles (not sure how legal it is to light candles on the beach, but fuck da police anyways), spend some time just laying on the beach together or take a walk or something. Then back to the house where the real romance will begin haha.
So yeah, that's what I'm thinking so far & just thought I'd share, see if I could get some suggestions
